Gettin' Figgy Wit It (Giveaway)

Since I began my half-marathon training over four weeks ago, I've been on the hunt for the perfect pre-workout snack. In the past, I've always turned to a slice of Ezekiel bread with a smudge of peanut butter to overcome my early morning stomach grumbles, but lately I've found that it's much too heavy to digest. And then I heard this wild rumor that fig bars might be the answer to my prayers (well right fit or not, I basically jumped on this excuse to consume more Fig Newtons...😍) You see, according to Runner's World, the best pre-workout snacks for running are those that are high carb and low fat. And since figs are low in fat, high in natural fruit sugars, and a rich source of calcium, iron, magnesium, vitamin B6, and potassium, these fig bars play the role just right.

But truth be told, traditional Fig Newtons aren't exactly synonymous with a healthy, nutritious runner's diet. So cue Nature's Bakery Fig Bars, the high-quality alternative that's taking the natural health world by storm. And just a few of their brag-worthy perks include: Non-GMO Project Verified, Vegan and Kosher Certified, Dairy Free, Soy Free.

I stumbled upon these curious treats when browsing at my local Harris Teeter. I passed a cute purple display that had been ransacked, leaving only one little beat-up fig bar to fend for itself. So I snagged the last one standing and I barely made it out of the check-out before I ripped it open, dying to see what all the hype over this snack bar was about.

Well, usually the general public is pretty spot-on with their tastebuds, because that fig bar was divine. So divine, that I reached out to Nature's Bakery as soon as I got home to see how I could share this discovery with my Instagram friends. And a day later, they responded to me with the most generous proposition: they would send me all of their flavors to try to make sure I thoroughly approved of their product and then they would send five boxes to two of my Instagram friends. HOLY SHIT!

Fig bars as a pre-run snack

Feeling adventurous enough to swap your usual pre-run breakfast for a Nature's Bakery Fig Bar? First, let me give you some pointers:

If you're fiber sensitive, save these for a post-run reward instead. (My super weak stomach didn't have any issues digesting two of them before a run, but better safe than sorry!)

If fiber sensitivity isn't a worry, eat these 30 min. - 1 hr. before your workout.

Consuming two bars (one package) should keep you fueled for up to 1 hr. workouts. For longer runs, you need to chow down on some heavier options.

Oh, all the flavors!

Guys, I've been nomming on these bars everyday for two weeks now and I still haven't gotten sick of them. Wanna know why? Because the variety of flavors is endless! They come in: original fig, raspberry, blueberry, strawberry, apple cinnamon, lemon, peach apricot, mango, pumpkin spice. And there are also some gluten-free options: pomegranate, fig, blueberry, raspberry. With so many choices, you're bound to find one or two that will steal your heart.

Now it's your chance to try!

I've teamed up with Nature's Bakery to host a giveaway, rewarding two lucky Instagram friends with FIVE boxes of these heaven-sent snacks! Just swing by my Instagram page to enter before Friday, September 23 at 12pm EST, when I will be announcing the winners. And just a heads up, only US and Canadian residents are eligible, sorry guys. Good luck everyone!
