Here's a Lil' Life Update for Ya
Hey y'all! So I've been in hiding for a lil' bit. Or well, a lotta bit. But that's because ever since my last blog post in late May, my world has gone into hyper-speed. So here's a quick update on what I've been up to this summer:
1. We bought a house!
You probably already know this if you follow me on IG, but around the time that I dropped out of the triathlon I was training for, my boyfriend and I decided to embark on the biggest adventure of our lives: buying our first house!
So we got our Inspector Gadget on and hunted for the perfect abode for almost four months. At the time, Charlotte was facing an evil seller's market and almost every home we went to see sold the very same day. Plus, we were up against the bigwigs who were buying houses outright with cash, so we really didn't have much buying power at all as first time home buyers. But just when I was about to throw in the towel on our search, Matt and I stumbled upon the cutest little two-story house tucked into an adorable corner of Charlotte. We walked inside and the home literally sang to us.
Now don't get me wrong, the crib could use its fair share of nail polish, but we're thinking of the renovations as a fun way to spend our free time (...as if we didn't have enough going on already.) So if anyone knows how to paint cabinets, add a tile backsplash, tear down a drywall, paint 20' ceilings, install new faucets, or install a fence, holla atcha girl. 😜
2. My baby grew up!
Believe it our not, my lil' pup turned ONE YEAR OLD on July 1st. 😭 And despite how cliché this sounds, I can't believe how quickly this first year of being a momma has flown by! I could cry!
In true fur mama fashion, we went all out for his big day. We started the day with a hearty 3-mile run, took a trip to the pet store, enjoyed a 1-hour evening stroll, made a pit stop at the dog park, and wrapped up the day with Pharaoh opening his gifts and blowing out the candles on his pupcake. That's right, Matt actually bought him an $8 pupcake from the local pet bakery... and we may or may not have had some of it too. 😜
3. We took a trip to the Mile High City!
Two of Matt's best friends from his childhood tied the knot in Denver, CO last weekend and we had the pleasure of flying out there to cheers with them! They had the wedding at the Denver Botanical Gardens, which, if you aren't aware, is quite possibly one of the most beautiful venues ever. We're talkin' a rustic barn adorned with flowers, attached to an outdoor patio strung with Edison bulbs, surrounded by perfectly landscaped rolling fields. Literally about as Instagram-worthy as it gets.
Plus, my best friend Krista flew out to party with us, so it truly was a reunion of all our favorite people. We didn't get to spend much time in the actual city of Denver, so I guess we have an excuse to make a trip out there again real soon...
4. And finally: I've decided fitness is not a priority in my life right now. There, I said it.
In the midst of all of this chaos in my life, I have to admit: I'm not getting my workouts in every day. I'm not exercising on the reg, and when I do workout, it doesn't always feel great. My abs are playing a disappearing act and my legs aren't nearly as strong as they used to be. So in theory, I should probably feel guilty, angry, and out-of-shape. But wanna know the strangest part about it? It doesn't really bother me too much at all.
I mean sure, I have those internal struggles of "should I really be eating Ben & Jerry's if I didn't even lift a finger today?" But I'm trying to enjoy this time for what it is: a transition period. I mean come on, buying a house, traveling almost every weekend, and spending what's left of my free time with my boys?! I call that life and if I keep having as much fun as I have been, it can get in the way of a six-pack all it wants.
So there you have it. That's been my summer in a nutshell. I hate that I haven't been more active on here, because I genuinely enjoy writing for y'all. But don't worry: I fully plan on getting back in the saddle and blogging/posting more once we are moved into the new crib and things slow down a bit. Stay tuned!
Also, if you're just DYING to see my life in real-time, be sure to follow me on Instagram, where I try to post 3-4 times a week! 😜Love y'all!
