My Fall Race Calendar

It breaks my heart to say this, but guys, summer is over. Yesterday officially marked the end of my breezy weekends on the lake, having a sandy beach bum in sunny Charleston, and diving face first into overly ripe watermelons whenever I choose. But all good things must come to an end, and I'm bouncing-out-of-my-seat excited to welcome my fall racing season.

That's right, it's time to retire my flip-flops and lace up my Asics. You see, every runner has a special place in their heart for the fall season, because when the air gets just a bit crisper, that's when you know you're going to experience some of your best runs for the year. So this fall will be no different for me, because I've already planned a packed race calendar. I'm hungry for some PR's and I'm thrilled that I've signed up for six chances to go out and get them. Charlotte #fitfam: be sure to comment below for which races you will be joining me!

Turtle Trek 5k

Sept. 10, Isle of Palms, SC

Every year, I choose a race to run during my birthday weekend and this year I've chosen to celebrate my big 2-7 with the turtles in beautiful Charleston. This will be my first sunset race, and pair that with the fact that all of the race proceeds will help with sea turtle conservation, I can't think of a more perfect way to celebrate my birthday. Charleston running fam, join me for this birthday bash and sign up here.

South End Shuffle 5k

Sept. 17, Charlotte, NC

Besides the fact that this race is taking place in the ultra hip South End neighborhood, I'm pumped to shuffle for this race's rad 2-for-1 charity deal, (aka, you can feel extra good about yourself because you are supporting two great causes). Proceeds from this race will be benefitting both the Purple Promise Foundation (which aids those affected by melanoma cancer) and the expansion of the Rail Trail (the colorful path all of us Midtown Charlotte runners have ventured on at least once before). Oh and another reason you can't miss this Saturday evening race: post-run live music and free beer will undoubtedly result in an epic dance party. Be there or be square. Sign up here and be sure to use my promo code "FITBLOG_SES_2016" for $5 off your entry fee!

Wild Vine Trail Race 5k

Sept. 24, Charlotte, NC

I have a love-hate with the whitewater center races, because 1) trail running is complete TORTURE, but 2) USNWC has the fly-est race shirts I've ever seen. So here I go again, I've signed up for another murderous trail race, because I'm a sucker for catchy running apparel... I dare you to join me. Go on, sign up here

Isle of Palms Connector Run 10k

Oct. 1, Charlotte, NC

I've scheduled a second race in the dreamy Isle of Palms, because I simply can not stay away from this town. Word on the street is that this course showcases breathtaking views of the low country and better yet, is incredibly flat: my perfect opportunity to take home a lightning-speed time. ;) Looking for an excuse to vacay in Charleston? Rocktoberfest 5-miler

Oct. 15, Charlotte, NC

I ran this race last year and walked home with a 2nd place overall female finish. So this year I've got my eyes set on a 2-peat. From what I remember, it's definitely one of the most entertaining runs in the area, because it has over six bands rockin' upbeat tunes throughout the course. Therefore, no need for headphones (even though I'm a running playlist nazi): this race will keep a smile on your face the whole way through. Let's boogy. Sign up here

Charlotte Half-Marathon

Nov. 12, Charlotte, NC

And here it is. The main event. This is the race I've been training for and will continue to bust my butt for, for the next 10 weeks. I haven't run a half-marathon in over four years, so I'm making my comeback here at home with the recently rebranded Charlotte Marathon. (Not gonna lie, 60% of the reason I chose this race was because of the sick branding. Graphic design nerd, guilty!) So please comment below if you will also be training for this race; I need all of the support I can get. And those of you who are on the fence about running it, it's not to late to sign away your social life for the next 3 months (haha, kidding). Comment below and let me convince you why we need to cross that finish line together. Teamwork makes the dream work. Sign up here
